A conservation easement protecting about one mile of the Ross shorefront property from development is held by this land trust, an affiliate of the Maine Coast Heritage Trust. All Ross Cottage rental profits are dedicated to the Downeast Coastal Conservancy. The Conservancy seeks to preserve the environmental quality of Cobscook Bay, nearby Atlantic salmon streams, and other outstanding features of Washington County. The DCC’s office is in Machias and its local office is on U.S. 1 about a quarter-mile west of the Rt. 189 turnoff to Lubec.
